OUR STORY
Move to Texas she said.....
Like many, I've always loved horses. Growing up, I always told people it would be a dream to have 1000 acres and become a retirement ranch for senior horses and give a home to the sick and injured so they could be cared for. Well, we're about 992 acres shy of that but since moving to Texas in the early '90s, we've had horses and that is when we rescued our first. A 7 month old paint filly we named Coco that was supposed to go to the auction. She found a home and a bestie with our paint girl, Patty. Fast forward to 2020, we rescued 3 horses from Bowie before they were to be shipped to Mexico to be slaughtered. March 2022, rescued a senior mare with stringhalt on her last day. August 2022, our friend rescued a recipient mare before going to auction and asked if we could take her in. This is no longer "our story" as it is "their story". This is a new chapter in the lives of 7 throw away horses that have become a herd family. They are The Magnificent 7 Crew
also known as The Big Crew.
ABOUT STARR D RANCH HORSE SANCTUARY
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, private sanctuary located in Parker County, Texas.
Our equine residents are mainly kill pen slaughter rescues who are now enjoying life to the fullest. Our aim is to show these beautiful creatures that not all humans are bad. That some of us will devote our lives to make up for the cruelty they previously endured. The new chapter of their lives starts as a blank page to be filled with love, hope, trust and respect....and apples, carrots and peppermint wafers.
